West Ham could have received blessing in disguise by not signing one of their previous Summer targets.
While it’s believed that Jhon Duran is now the Hammers’ top priority when it comes to signing a striker, that hasn’t always been the case. There’s been a number of potential forwards who have potentially been ahead of the South American, but they’ve all not progressed for one reason or another.
Perhaps the most disappointing deal that never happened was Serhou Guirassy. The No.9 scored an incredible 28 Bundesliga goals last season but has a release clause of just £15 million. Signing him would’ve represented some unbelievable value for money but, unfortunately, strong competition for his signature meant attention had to turn elsewhere with Borussia Dortmund leading the race to secure his signature.
In fact, he was only one step away from completing his move to the Yellows’ but, much to the delight of the Hammers, an issue was found during his medical which means the deal can’t progress, Sky Sports Germany reports..
If it was our Irons who were in for him, you could almost guarantee talks would’ve carried on for a lot longer and it would’ve been a complete waste of time had he failed his medical. Obviously it’ll be disappointing for him to not get his move away, but at least he’s still got Champions League football to look forward to with Stuttgart.
