‘Can’t be possible’: Journalist thinks Oliver Glasner already has one big ‘problem’ at Crystal Palace

Oliver Glasner now warned he already has one big ‘problem’ at Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have been warned of one key problem that Oliver Glasner must address going into the summer transfer window.

Oliver Glasner has recorded a win, a draw and a loss from his opening three games at Crystal Palace after joining the club last month to take the reins from Roy Hodgson.

The Austrian has already improved a host of things on the pitch for the Eagles, with Palace looking to be a more lively and attack-minded side than the one that played the first half of the campaign.

While there is still a significant way to go for the club in terms of progressing the squad to reach the levels expected of them, Glasner will have the backing of the board in the bid to improve the team’s form.

Despite all of the manager’s hopes for the squad he inherited from Hodgson, journalist Dean Jones believes that the Europa League winner must address one key weakness currently at the club.

The problem that Oliver Glasner faces at Crystal Palace

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones identified Palace’s lack of depth in attacking areas as being a key problem that Glasner will face going into the summer transfer window.

“Palace have a problem at the moment because you look at the possibilities in terms of squad make-up and depth and it’s just not there.”

“One of the big problems Glasner was always going to have in this job is that you win over fans by trying to play attacking, expansive football, but that’s just not possible at Palace because the squad at the moment is just not equipped to handle that.”

“It’s one of the big things they will focus on going forward. They face a summer of change so until then Glasner’s focus on concentration and team structure is going to be key in getting them through.”

Sitting seven points above the relegation zone, Glasner has his work cut out to deliver a strong end to what has been a dreary 2023/24 campaign for the Eagles.

Oliver Glasner must orchestrate a strong summer of transfers

Palace’s issues this season haven’t been helped by inconsistencies in both the managerial department and on the pitch, with key players missing a considerable amount of football due to injury.

The depth that Jones touches upon is traceable in the dilemma that Hodgson tackled without the likes of Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise available for the entirety of the campaign.

The duo are head and shoulders above the level of other quality currently on show in the squad, with no depth there to even mildly cover for their respective absences.

For Glasner, the issue hasn’t been as prominent as the Austrian is yet to have both Eze and Olise available to play together.

On the other hand, Dean’s comments could be contradicted by the above as change has been evident through the quality and directness of Palace’s play since his arrival, despite the lack of depth in the squad.

One thing is for certain is that it’s braced to be a busy summer at Selhurst Park as Glasner prepares to orchestrate his first transfer window as manager.
