‘Can see his quality’ – Spurs coach makes admission about Alejo Veliz
Tottenham Hotspur coach Wayne Burnett has said that Alejo Veliz showed in his 30-minute cameo for Tottenham’s Under-21s on Wednesday just why he is so highly thought of.
Veliz joined Tottenham in a £12m deal from Rosario Central after making an impressive start to his senior career in the Argentine top flight.
However, the 20-year-old is seen as one for the future rather than a readymade product by Spurs, with Ange Postecoglou admitting last month that the striker is not expected to get any minutes for the first team during his first few months at the club (Fabrizio Romano).
Alejo Veliz impressed in his Tottenham debut
The Argentine came on for his Tottenham Under-21 debut on Wednesday at Colchester with 28 minutes left on the clock, with the Lilywhites cruising with a 5-0 lead.
Although Veliz failed to get on the scoresheet, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed in his match review that the centre-forward proved a handful with his excellent movement and with his physicality.
When asked about the debutant’s display, Burnett told Spurs Play: “The first team wanted Ale [Veliz] to play, it was a planned 30 minutes. You know, you can see his quality, you can see the runs he makes and he’s certainly an exciting prospect.”

Veliz will need a few matches to get up to work his way up to fitness and to get accustomed to a new style of football. While the youngster looks quite confident, it would not be fair to judge him until he has had at least six months to adapt to his new surroundings both on and off the pitch.
