West Ham United on verge of ‘brilliant’ new transfer coup – Sky Sports. West Ham are on the verge of securing a “brilliant” piece of transfer business by signing Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug, according to Mark McAdam.
The Hammers have ramped up their transfer business over the past week with the confirmed signing of Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United and the impending signing of free agent Guido Rodriguez (Mundo Deportivo, 4 August, page 25).
Julen Lopetegui is now closing in on his latest target and providing a much-coveted addition to the forward line. Sky Sports News reporters McAdam and Ed Draper gave their verdict on the move live on air [4 August, 17:27].
Draper said: “It’s a really good signing.” While McAdam added: “Brilliant. He’s an old school centre-forward who will do everything West Ham fans want.”
Niclas Fullkrug could be the perfect signing for West Ham
The strike force at the Hammers has been a problem for several years and now Tim Steidten and Lopetegui have finally found their solution.
West Ham turned to the more experienced Fullkrug after the club failed to agree a deal with Aston Villa for 20-year-old striker Jhon Duran, but the move has come as a blessing in disguise.
The 31-year-old arrives at the London Stadium having represented Germany at Euro 2024 and reached the Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund.
He will be the youngest striker at the club alongside Danny Ings and Michael Antonio, but that represents a problem to be addressed in future windows. Fullkrug is ready and capable of making an immediate impact in the Premier League.
Julen Lopetegui will want even more signings at West Ham United
Fullkrug provided 15 goals and 10 assists for Dortmund last season and has scored 106 goals during his time in Germany.
He will provide a much-needed goal threat and physical presence to compliment the trio of Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Summerville, as well as Lucas Paqueta behind them.
West Ham are adding goals to their side in their quest for a return to European football this season, and have found the perfect forward to restore the Hammers to the European stage.
