Bittersweet Jean-Clair Todibo claim is a real punch in the gut for West Ham fans

Jean-Clair Todibo joined West Ham United on a season-long loan from Nice last week, and that move will become a permanent one next summer.

West Ham United made a really big statement by bringing Jean-Clair Todibo to the London Stadium.

Julen Lopetegui strengthened his defensive ranks significantly as the Hammers beat a whole host of top European clubs to the signature of Jean-Clair Todibo.

The West Ham head coach has made huge changes at the club this summer, and the likes of Todibo joining us proves just how much of an attraction we are to top-class player.

Hopefully the Frenchman will make his debut on Saturday away at Crystal Palace.

The Hammers fans are absolutely buzzing with excitement to see the 24-year-old in action for us, but that excitement might just have to be tempered slightly.

Jean-Clair Todibo claim a real punch in the gut for West Ham fans

According to a report from The Sun, West Ham may look to fund the permanent transfer of Jean-Clair Todibo next summer by selling Mohammed Kudus.

The 24-year-old Ghanaian attacker joined the Hammers from Ajax last summer for around £38 million (Sky Sports).

And despite his brilliance for West Ham, Mohammed Kudus recently insisted that there is still plenty more to come from him.

He has bagged 14 goals and six assists in 46 games for the Hammers – a fantastic return considering he’s only been with us for 12 months.

The former Ajax man is an all-action superstar in the making, and there is no limits to what he can achieve in the game.

    Todibo in, Kudus out?

The Ghana international is one of our two most important players, alongside Jarrod Bowen, and it was great news earlier this summer when his £85 million release clause expired.

However, that clause will come into effect once again next summer (The Athletic).

And if one of Europe’s bigger clubs come in for him, then we will undoubtedly have to wave goodbye to Kudus.

So in that respect, West Ham signing Jean-Clair Todibo is a really bittersweet moment for the fans. The Hammers have gained a top-class centre-back but could potentially lose one of our very best players as a result.

Hopefully West Ham manage to match Kudus’s ambition by qualifying for Europe this season and then, who knows? We might just be able to keep hold of him as well as Todibo
