West Ham United are keen to sign a Premier League midfielder on a free transfer next summer, but we’ve been handed a big blow.
David Moyes has a lot of work to do with his current West Ham squad, and that obviously won’t come cheap, so the ability to sign a proven Premier League player on a free transfer will clearly appeal to the Scot.
The Hammers boss recently admitted that money is tight at the London Stadium right now – meaning that he’ll have to be frugal when it comes to signing players.
So with that in mind, it’s not surprising one little bit to see Moyes eyeing up potential free agents ahead of next summer’s transfer window.
Josh Brownhill is someone who is allegedly on West Ham’s radar, but the East London outfit now seemingly face a big problem.
That’s because the former Manchester United academy graduate will apparently not available on a free next summer now…
West Ham dealt free transfer blow
According to TEAMtalk, West Ham want to sign Josh Brownhill from Burnley for absolutely nothing next summer.
However, Moyes faces a big problem, with the Clarets having already taken up their option to extend the 27-year-old’s current deal by a further 12 months.
Moyes is clearly a big fan of the hard-working central midfielder, and actually tried to bring him to the London Stadium in the summer of 2022.
Now, Brownhill is far from spectacular but he is a very solid Premier League midfielder, and you always know what you’re going to get with him.
He’s obviously a very good footballer as well – he wouldn’t be a mainstay in Vincent Kompany’s side if he wasn’t.
On paper, Brownhill is the absolutely perfect player for a David Moyes system, and the midfielder would be a fine addition to the Scot’s squad.
However, West Ham will not be signing the Burnley star on a free transfer next summer, that’s for sure.
