‘Big blow’ – Journalist reacts to latest West Ham injury news as ‘very, very sad’ verdict shared

Paul Brown shares ‘very, very sad’ verdict as Michail Antonio injury news emerges at West Ham United

West Ham are “really” going to miss Michail Antonio after the “essential” West Ham striker suffered a knee injury, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Hammers striker sustained the injury while playing for Jamaica in their clash with Canada on Saturday (18 November).

However, as per The Athletic (21 November), the injury is not as serious as initially feared, with the forward expected to be back within a month.

“It’s very, very sad to see, but I think a lot of people wrote Antonio off at times in the past and he’s proved time and time again, that he’s an essential part of this West Ham team,” Brown told GIVEMESPORT.

“They’re going to really miss him, as they’ve never been able to find anyone quite like him to come in and take some of the pressure off him in that position. And they are really, really short up front.

“I think it’s a big blow both for him and for the club. And it makes the manager’s task a lot more difficult between now and January.”

    Big miss

Antonio has been heavily relied upon by Hammers manager David Moyes this season, with the striker making 14 appearances in all competitions so far.

The majority of those have come in the Premier League, where West Ham occupy ninth spot, with the striker also featuring twice in the Europa League.

His goal tally of two will undoubtedly disappoint many Hammers fans, but at the same time a lot do appreciate the wider role he plays in the team, making runs and holding up the ball to bring others into play, as well as closing down defenders.

But it seems that Moyes will be without the 33-year-old for the short-term, meaning outcast Danny Ings could get the nod up front.

He has been shunned by Moyes this season, but could become a key player in claret and blue as the East London club prepare for a very busy period across various competitions.
