‘Beggars belief’: Lopetegui beware as David Sullivan confidant unleashes with specific criticism

Julen Lopetegui beware as West Ham reporter very close to Sullivan unleashes – ‘Beggars belief’. West Ham United head coach Julen Lopetegui is under real pressure right now, there’s no two ways about that.

Tottenham beat West Ham 4-1 in north London on Saturday, and Julen Lopetegui looked completely lost on the touchline throughout the game.

The second-half capitulation from the Hammers players was painful to watch, and things went from bad to worse for us when Mohammed Kudus was sent-off late on in the contest.

You could cut the tension with a knife when Kudus walked past Lopetegui after receiving his marching orders.

Things are looking bleak at the London Stadium right now, and the Hammers head coach has to turn things around quickly if we are to enjoy a successful season. Will he be given the chance to do that though, as the vultures being to circle?

The former Real Madrid, Spain, Sevilla and Wolves boss must be feeling it right now.

Much was expected of him at West Ham after he made some terrific summer signings. However, there has been no progress from last season on view yet. And a reporter with close links to David Sullivan has just highlighted a massive problem with the current Hammers squad.

Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg took to his X account after the Hammers’ defeat to Spurs on Saturday afternoon. Beggars belief that West Ham have constructed such a slow midfield for the Premier League.

Steinberg is spot on here in my opinion.

West Ham lack any kind of pace, power, dynamism, athleticism or energy in central midfield.

West Ham need central midfield powerhouse

We have never replaced Declan Rice’s ball-carrying ability since he left to join Arsenal in 2023. The Hammers had the chance to sign Youssouf Fofana when Rice left, but opted to bring James Ward-Prowse into the club instead.

It was one of the worst decisions we’ve made as a club in recent times, and we’re really paying for that now. In the summer of 2022, we could have signed Amadou Onana, but refused to meet his salary demands. Again, that now looks like a truly dreadful decision.

Moving forward, the priority for the Hammers must be to sign a powerful central midfielder who has athleticism and energy in abundance.

If Julen Lopetegui is still in charge of West Ham in the summer, he has to work closely with Tim Steidten to make make that happen.
