‘Awful’: Stuart Pearce slams Tottenham Hotspur player after Rangers draw at Ibrox

LEICESTER, ENGLAND - AUGUST 19: Ange Postecoglou, Manager of Tottenham Hotspur, looks on as Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray, Timo Werner and Dejan Kulusevski of Tottenham Hotspur prepare to come as substitutes during the Premier League match between Leicester City FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC at The King Power Stadium on August 19, 2024 in Leicester, England. Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur were in action against Philippe Clement’s Rangers at Ibrox on Thursday evening.

Tottenham took on Rangers at Ibrox in the League Stage of the UEFA Europa League.

Spurs were expected to win the match against Rangers, but the Premier League club had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

It was not one of Tottenham’s finest performances, and one Spurs player in particular had a really poor game.

Stuart Pearce not impressed with Tottenham Hotspur forward Timo Werner

Timo Werner started for Tottenham, but the Germany international forward was so bad that Spurs head coach Postecoglou decided to take him off at half-time.

Werner started on the left of a three-man attacking midfield in a 4-2-3-1 formation, and former Newcastle United defender Stuart Pearce was not impressed.

Pearce said on talkSPORT at half time (9pm, December 12, 2024): “I think Werner has been awful, I really do, in this first half, so he could be tugged.”

    Timo Werner’s game in numbers

It was a pretty disappointing evening for Tottenham. The North London club would have expected to win and they will consider the result against Rangers as two points dropped.

Werner has not been at his best for a while now, and it is a surprise that Tottenham want to tie down the former Chelsea forward on a long-term contract. The 28-year-old is on loan from RB Leipzig at the moment.

According to WhoScored, against Rangers at Ibrox, Werner took one shot which was not on target. He did not play a single key pass.

The German forward had a pass accuracy of 69.2% and took 39 touches of the ball. He made two clearances and put in two crosses.

While Werner showed his pace against Rangers, his end product was lacking and so was his consistency.
