Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are among several top European clubs expected to send scouts to watch Club Brugge face Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening according to NowArsenal.com. The highly anticipated fixture is one of the first under the competition’s newly revamped format.

This season, the Champions League has introduced a significant change, replacing the traditional group stage with a new league system. Under the previous format, teams played three opponents home and away, with the top two advancing to the knockout stages.

Now, clubs like Arsenal will face eight different teams—four home and four away—making for a more dynamic and diverse competition. The matches will run through January, extending the European football calendar beyond the traditional December cutoff.

According to reports from Het Nieuwsblad, Arsenal and Tottenham will be among several top clubs, including Manchester City, Manchester United, and Aston Villa, sending scouts to the Brugge vs Dortmund fixture. While specific player targets for Arsenal and Tottenham have not been named, both clubs are likely keeping an eye on potential breakout stars from two teams known for developing top talent.

Borussia Dortmund, in particular, comes into the competition with pedigree, having surprised many by reaching last year’s final. They defeated Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain en route to Wembley, where they narrowly lost to Real Madrid in an entertaining contest. With this season set to be another exciting chapter for both teams, the North London clubs will be keen to identify players who could bolster their squads in the future.

With the largest-ever number of teams and games in this season’s Champions League, Arsenal will be looking to maximise their scouting opportunities. Arsenal boast some of the best scouting networks in the Premier League and are likely already compiling a list of targets for the January transfer window, which will coincide with the latter stages of the competition.
