Ange Postecoglou urges Tottenham board to keep key player who is as important as Maddison

According to Estadio Deportivo, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is keen on keeping Argentine midfielder Giovani Lo Celso at the club and is actively trying to convince the player to stay.

Postecoglou has reportedly expressed his preference for Lo Celso over other midfield options like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Tanguy Ndombele, considering him to be as important to the team as James Maddison.

Lo Celso has struggled to secure a regular place in the Tottenham squad in recent years and has spent a significant amount of time on loan at Villarreal recently where has impressed.

It was previously reported by journalist Matt Law that the player has his heart set on leaving this summer. However, Lo Celso’s performances in pre-season under new manager Ange Postecoglou have been exceptional, turning his fortunes around at the club.

He was brilliant against West Ham in Tottenham’s first pre-season game and even got himself on the scoresheet.

And he was on the score sheet once again in their friendly against Lion City Sailors in Singapore.

Despite Postecoglou’s efforts to convince him to stay, Napoli remains determined to sign Lo Celso and has reportedly made him their “priority signing,” according to Corriere dello

The midfielder seems to have gotten a second life at Spurs under Ange Postecoglou and so far he is proving himself to be a serious contender for the starting XI next season.

But a transfer to the Italian league winners could be too much a tempting opportunity to reject.

A report from Football London claims that Tottenham are ‘expected to launch a bid’ for the 25-year-old central defender this week.

The player is in the final year of his contract with Fulham and he is likely to be sold this month. The London club will not want to lose him on a free transfer next year.

The report adds that Tottenham have a ‘strong interest’ in the defender who is wanted by clubs including Monaco.

Apparently, the defender is keen on a move to the north London club if there is an offer on the table and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can secure an agreement with Fulham.

Tottenham conceded 63 goals in the league last season and they will have to sort out the defensive unit if they want to get back into the champions league.

Adarabioyo has proven his quality in the Premier League and he is likely to hit the ground running. He wouldn’t need an adaptation period and he could make an instant impact.

The 25-year-old is likely to partner Cristian Romero at the heart of Tottenham’s defence next season.

Meanwhile, the London club are also looking at Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham end up signing more than just one central defender before the summer transfer window closes.
