Kurt Zouma shares ‘huge honour’ at being named West Ham United captain this season
Kurt Zouma has shared his pride at being named West Ham captain and has labelled David Moyes a legend of the club after what they achieved together last season.
Zouma claimed it was a huge honour and a privilege to be made the captain at the London Stadium, saying he wants to repay his manager and fans through performances on the pitch.
He was also full of praise for his manager, branding him a legend and sharing with fans that the boss has helped him greatly both on and off the pitch, claiming he has supported him through everything.
Speaking to PA news, as shared by Irish News, Zouma stated: “It’s a huge honour and a privilege for me to be captain. It’s an amazing club and I’m just so proud.
“The manager has done an amazing job. He’s a legend here. We won a trophy last year and that was a top achievement.
“And for me personally he has been helping me in every aspect, with my game and outside of football he has been supporting me throughout everything, and I just can’t thank him enough for what he’s done for me and I try to give it back on the pitch.
“That’s my way, on the pitch. Everything he has helped me through I have to give it back on the pitch.”
Giving back on the pitch
Zouma’s performances so far this season have shown his promise of giving back to the club with his on-field displays is already starting to take effect. He has been a solid presence at the back and provided plenty of aerial threat at the other end, with some key performances.
He has guaranteed himself a key role at the heart of Moyes’ defensive unit and is now outperforming last season’s ever-present Nayef Aguerd, with new signing Konstantinos Mavropanos keeping the pressure high on both of them.
If he can continue to perform to such a high level, his reputation among fans at the London Stadium will continue to go from strength to strength, and the captain’s armband can be made his own.
The Hammers will be looking to challenge across all four competitions they are involved in this season, with Zouma a key element of their competitive form, it will now be up to them to keep it going.
