Alejo Veliz names Tottenham player he’s excited to play alongside and reveals celebration plan

Alejo Veliz has given an insight into his first two months as a Tottenham player as he discusses settling into life in north London and his celebration plan

Alejo Veliz could find himself getting minutes earlier than expected at Tottenham as injuries mount up in Ange Postecoglou’s squad

Alejo Veliz has revealed that he cannot wait to play alongside Giovani Lo Celso for Tottenham. Since making the move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from Rosario Central at the beginning of August, the striker has formed a close bond with his fellow countryman as the midfielder has helped him settle into his new surroundings.

Initially looking like a player who would make an impact for the team further down the line rather than right now, the summer addition has come off the substitutes’ bench in Tottenham’s last two league games after making a big impression behind the scenes. Lo Celso, who has been working his way back to fitness following a quad strain, hasn’t been on the pitch at the same time as the young striker, though, having been an unused substitute at Luton Town last weekend on his return from injury.

Having come through the system of Rosario Central and also supported the team growing up, Veliz is well aware of Lo Celso as the Argentina international also progressed from Rosario’s setup to play for the first team. Speaking to SPURSPLAY as he answered a number of questions from supporters, the 20-year-old was asked about how much he is looking forward to playing with Lo Celso.

“Yes, I truly am,” he said. “Gio also comes from the club where I’m from, of which I’m also a fan. I honestly believe Gio is also very important for Argentina as a player, so yes, I’m looking forward to that moment.”

Lo Celso isn’t the only player who has helped Veliz settle into life in London following his move to Tottenham. Spurs have a number of South American players at the club, including Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Bentancur, Emerson Royal and Richarlison, thus making it a smoother transition for Veliz.

“The truth is I’m very grateful to them because they welcomed me in the best way,” he explained. “They always ask if I needed anything and helped me in whatever they could.

“So, well, that was a great joy because I came to another country, another language. I know I’m not alone because I know they’re there to support me.”

On how his English lessons are coming on since his switch, he added: “Honestly, it’s a little hard, but I’m getting used to it. As I said, I started my English classes. And just listening to my teammates every day, I think I’ll adapt better.”
