‘A matter of when’ – Ange Postecoglou sent sack message as ‘toxic’ Tottenham claim made

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is a ‘dead man walking’ amid a hugely disappointing run of form that has seen the North London side drop to 15th in the table. Spurs have been decimated by injuries this season, with Postecoglou struggling to cope with the loss of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, in particular.

Meanwhile, Ben Davies missed a large chunk of games, and Richarlison is only now coming back into the fold after a lengthy layoff. Still, a manager’s job is to find solutions, and Postecoglou has managed to find few, with his side not only dropping away from the top six, but they are now closer to the relegation zone than they are to the European spots.

That has left Spurs fans livid, and the weekend’s defeat to strugglers Everton only added to frustration. That frustration has been echoed by National World’s James Trembath in the latest Spurs podcast, which can be seen at the top of this page. “I think we’re in a very, very tough spot, it’s fair to say<” Trembath said. “Another defeat against Everton, that’s 12 in the Premier League this season, more injuries to boot as well. Bissouma, Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke injured in training on Saturday morning. So, the manager has had a rotten hand in terms of the look.

“We have an unprecedented injuries, I don’t think I’ve ever known it as bad at Spurs. But it feels like the tide is turning against Postacoglou, the mood is definitely shifting. There was a little bit of disgruntlement, shall we say, in the away end at Goodison Park. A little bit of abuse has been thrown at Heung-min Son, who’s been a terrific servant. Everything’s just starting to turn a little bit toxic and when that happens, the writing’s on the wall really.

“You’d almost say, he’s probably a dead man walking, it’s a matter of when, not if. He has to carry the can for a lot of the problems that are going on. Yes, we’ve had horrendous luck but the players are getting injured in training, it’s repetitive hamstring injuries, it’s injury after injury and we have to change, we really do.

“We were diabolical at Everton, absolutely diabolical. Limited, we only had 11 first-team players fit but I still think there were things that could have been done within that system yesterday. He could have looked at the team sheet and thought, Archie Gray finally getting his spot in central midfield and he ended up playing as a right-sided centre-back in a back three that just completely failed in the first half.

“We were all at sea, we made Everton look like world beaters really, one ball over the top. Every time they were getting in, Calvert-Lewin, who hadn’t scored for 17 matches, scores, we hadn’t lost at Goodison for 10 years, we lose at Everton. We’re almost a laughing stock at the moment. In terms of state of play, we are in an unholy mess at the moment and we need to start acting decisively. We either back the manager and we bring in players very, very quickly to help him and help the squad or we get rid of the manager and we do the same.

“We appoint someone who can really bring that experience to the table in the Premier League and stop us sleepwalking towards a relegation battle at the moment. “
