Reporter who broke Paqueta transfer shares truly depressing West Ham transfer update

West Ham United are said to be eyeing up a move to sign a top-class striker in the January transfer window.

David Moyes and his team are clearly very active in the January transfer window, with West Ham in desperate need of a top-class forward.

The Hammers boss could do with signing a central midfielder, a centre-back and a versatile full-back as well.

However the addition of a centre-forward should be one of his top priorities. And recent reports have speculated that West Ham are leading the charge to sign Armando Broja from Chelsea, with one claim suggesting that we’re ‘clear favourites’ to win the race for his signature.

The 22-year-old Blues hitman is the perfect striker for Moyes’s system, and signing him would be a major boost for us.

However, one reporter in particular has some bad news for us regarding our pursuit of Broja…

Reporter who broke Paqueta transfer shares West Ham update

Ben Jacobs, the man who famously was first off the mark to report our interest in signing Lucas Paqueta in the summer of 2022, has provided a fairly depressing update on Broja.

Jacobs told Give Me Sport that Fulham and Wolves are showing more interest in signing the Chelsea man than West Ham are:

“There are a few things to say about Broja. The first thing is that there’s quite a lot of interest, which comes from Fulham and Wolves, who would prefer to do a loan with an option to buy or could be persuaded into an obligation. But they would prefer to structure it so they’re not buying permanently and spending much money in this window. Then you have West Ham, who have been tracking Broja for quite some time. The interest is historical, but they could be tempted to reignite it. When they bid for Broja a few windows back, they looked at just over £30m. But I think Fulham and Wolves may be slightly more active than West Ham. But if there is to be a departure in this window, then obviously, any club interested that isn’t active now has to make a big decision. So, we can’t rule out West Ham, but maybe Fulham and Wolves are more active.”

This really hurts. I just think that Broja is the striker who would complete our setup. He’s absolutely ideally suited to the way in which we play as a team.

If we get a deal for Kalvin Phillips over the line, it will be an important signing, but I still feel like we’ll be extremely short up front.

Hopefully Moyes makes something exciting happen during the final nine days of the January transfer window, and brings a top-class striker to West Ham.

However, his chances of doing just that seem fairly bleak right now following the update from Ben Jacobs.
