Player Tottenham sold for £26.4m has been ‘recommended’ to West Ham United

David Moyes’s West Ham United have been told to sign Steven Bergwijn, a player who knows the Premier League well from his time at Tottenham Hotspur.

That is according to journalist Dean Jones, who has noted West Ham’s stance on a potential deal for former Tottenham winger Bergwijn.

So, what has been reported about former Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn and West Ham United? Let’s take a look.

Former Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn has been recommended to West Ham United

Well, according to journalist Dean Jones, former Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn has been “recommended” to West Ham United.

West Ham are looking for a new winger in the January transfer window, and one of the players they are showing interest in is Bergwijn, who left Tottenham for Ajax in the summer of 2022 for £26.4 million (Sky Sports).

The Mirror reported earlier this month interest in Bergwijn from the Hammers.

    Steven Bergwijn

Jones told GiveMeSport: “The thing is they are looking at quite a few players like this. Bergwijn is their big talking point at the moment. But there are other players in the background like Wilfried Gnonto and Jack Clarke, that they are continuing to consider.

“So it’s not a disaster if this Bergwijn one doesn’t work out. From what I understand, they set this week as a really key one in terms of actually understanding the situation around Bergwijn.

“They had been recommended him so highly, that they had to go for it and see whether it can happen and if not, they want to move on quickly.”

My View: Steven Bergwijn could be a good signing for West Ham

In my opinion, Steven Bergwijn would be a good signing for West Ham United but at the right price.

While the Netherlands international winger was not exactly a superstar at Tottenham, he did relatively well and showed his quality.

Bergwijn scored seven goals and gave five assists in 60 appearances in the Premier League. He was only 22 when he joined Spurs. The Netherlands international is now 26 and is a more mature player.

The winger has done well for Ajax since his move to the Dutch giants in the summer of 2022.

Bergwijn scored 12 goals and gave five assists in 28 Eredivisie starts last season. He has found the back of the net seven times and provided three assists in 14 league matches so far this campaign.

The forward is only 26 now, so his best years are ahead of him. I think that Bergwijn would be a good signing for West Ham.

Meanwhile, The Mirror has reported that Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace are interested in signing striker Danny Ings from West Ham in the January transfer window.

The report has noted that both Wolves and Palace have shown interest in a loan deal for Ings.

The 31-year-old striker has made one start and one substitute appearance in the Premier League and has made two starts and three substitute appearances in the UEFA Europa League for David Moyes’s side this season.
