Exciting news for Tottenham, now ‘on the verge’ of signing £47.5m striker Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of completing a major shock transfer by landing former Chelsea striker Timo Werner on loan.
Werner, who had a nightmare spell in England previously with Chelsea, is free to leave RB Leipzig again this January and has been linked with Manchester United
However, it now looks like it’s going to be Tottenham who win the race for Werner instead.
According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Spurs are now ‘on the verge’ of signing Werner on a six-month loan deal from the German side. It’s claimed negotiations are at a final stage and the deal should get done if details are ironed out.

Chelsea paid £47.5m to bring Werner to the club originally back in 2020. However, the German struggled massively for confidence and goals and was shipped back out.
The goals have hardly flowed for Werner since, though. He has just two in 14 this season and Leipzig are more than happy to let him go.
Risky move by Spurs
This is definitely an educated gamble by Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou.
Clearly, he sees Werner as someone with pace who can help his team play on the counter and get in behind, much like Brennan Johnson does.
But Werner’s goal record and the fact he was so poor in the Premier League last time make this one big risk for Spurs, even if it is a loan move.
Werner might feel he has a point to prove though. And if that’s the case and Ange can get him firing, then it might end up being a masterstroke.
Still, Werner has a lot to show and Tottenham fans will be very suspicious of this being a signing that can make a real difference to proceedings.
