David Moyes is yet to hold talks with West Ham about extending his contract with the club to throw his future further up into the air, sources have told Football Insider.
The 60-year-old’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
Moyes’ second spell at the London Stadium could therefore come to an end in 2024 – just a year after he led West Ham to triumph in the Europa Conference League.
The lack of renewal talks comes amid significant tension behind the scenes at the London Stadium.
It is believed Moyes and recently appointed sporting director Tim Steidten were at odds during the summer over transfer targets and at one stage the manager could have left.
He ended up staying and the Irons’ summer imports have proved mostly successful, with Mohammed Kudus, James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez all making a near-instant impact for the London club.
West Ham have won eight of their 17 Premier League games so far this season and sit eighth in the Premier League.
Moyes’ side have also advanced to the knockout stages of the Europa League and will play in the competition’s last 16 in March.
But they were thrashed 5-1 at Liverpool in their League Cup quarter-final on Wednesday as they were torn apart by a rampant home side at Anfield.
The former Man United boss, who had a previous spell at the London Stadium between 2017 and 2018, returned to east London in December 2019.
He has won 96 of his 203 games in charge of the Irons in his second spell – a win percentage of over 47%.
Moyes also delivered West Ham’s first major trophy for 43 years when he overcame Fiorentina, AZ Alkmaar and Gent to win the Europa Conference League in the 2022-23 campaign.
