Liverpool’s forgotten player just became a very important player for Jurgen Klopp

Gordon went almost 700 days between his last two appearances for Liverpool – but Jurgen Klopp’s forgotten man has just gotten a lot more important. The teenager, plucked from Derby for £1million rising to £3m nearly three years ago, could be in for several more appearances in the coming weeks due to an injury to Ben Doak.

So far, Gordon has been restricted to five career run-outs for the Reds. His most recent came this month against Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League while the one before that was way back in January 2022 in a Carabao Cup semi-final at Arsenal.

Liverpool’s second youngest goalscorer ever – there was a lot of excitement around Gordon back then due to his emergence. Klopp said before the match against Arsenal: “Kaide is always in our mind, because he’s just an exceptional talent. He’s here as long as he’s fit, he’s always in my mind and then we will see where that exactly leads.”

His assistant Pep Lijnders similarly said: “He is a typical Liverpool Football Club winger, in my opinion, because he has goals, he has speed. We really like him and we are really happy he is with us.”

Sadly, though, the England youth international was struck down by injury soon after. U21s manager Barry Lewtas described it as a “complex pelvic” problem and said: “It has been linked to his growth, and Kaide is taller and bigger now than when he last played.”
