Ange Postecoglou shares excitement after ‘big’ news coming out of Tottenham this week

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has had his say after it was confirmed this week that Destiny Udogie has signed a new contract.

Spurs fans are delighted with the way this season has panned out so far. Postecoglou has completely revolutionised the club, and Tottenham are finally a fun team to watch. Young Udogie has been one of their most exciting players.

Tottenham signed Destiny Udogie from Udinese last year for an initial fee of just £15 million (Sky Sports).

The Italian spent the whole of last season at his old club, but right after Ange Postecoglou saw him in pre-season, Udogie became his first-choice left-back.

The 21-year-old has been amazing this season. His attacking runs have caused a lot of problems for the opposition, and he is getting better and better every week.

Tottenham took note of his performances and rewarded him with a brand new contract this week. Postecoglou admitted that he’s really happy about that.

He said, as per Football London: “Really pleased with Destiny signing obviously. This is the first phase of us trying to build something and the core of the group is fairly young and new to the Premier League.

“Destiny committing to us is an endorsement of what he sees as a good place for his future. It’s his first year in the Premier League, he’s adapting to a new role. He understands that, he’s a willing worker in trying to improve himself but he’s also made an impact, which is the big thing for us.

“Great to have him commit to the club long-term. It’s something we want to continue to build on and hopefully keep the core of this group together for the coming years to build something special.”

Securing Udogie’s future is great news for Tottenham

As tough a negotiator as Daniel Levy is, not being in a strong position with a player’s contract always puts your side in a difficult position.

Destiny Udogie was nowhere near the end of his contract, but having just a few years left on his deal is far riskier than having his future secured until 2030.

Numerous big clubs would’ve surely tried to lure Udogie away from Spurs in the coming years, and many still could. However, Tottenham are in a very strong position thanks to his new deal.

Postecoglou’s men take on Nottingham Forest this evening, and Udogie is expected to start. If he has a good game, Spurs should come away with a win.
