West Ham manager David Moyes potentially has just two games to save his job at London Stadium, according to Claret & Hugh.
After a great run of results, the Irons were sent crashing back down to earth with Sunday’s (10 December) embarrassing 5-0 loss at Fulham.
Moyes has done well to put questions over his job to one side in recent weeks, but his future is now the number one topic of conversation again.
If an update on Moyes’ future posted by Sean Whetstone on Twitter [10 December] is anything to go by, it appears the Scotsman is now on borrowed time.
“Club source to Claret a Hugh about David Moyes after today’s embarrassing 5-0 defeat,” the 6foot2 founder said. “Let’s put it this way. We consider the next two games VERY VERY important.”
That implies that if results do not go in United’s favour against Freiburg and Wolves, Moyes could be out by the time the Hammers face Liverpool.
In many ways, that would be incredibly harsh as Moyes guided United through to that Carabao Cup quarter-final tie at Anfield on 20 December.
However, this is a brutal business and the West Ham board cannot afford to let the season crumble when it promises so much.
In many ways, Moyes is a victim of his own success as he gave the United fanbase a taste of tangible success in last year’s Europa Conference League.
Exactly what constitutes good results in these next two fixtures remains to be see, with a draw needed against Freiburg to finish first in the Europa League group.
Defeat against the German side, though, quickly followed by a loss against Wolves in the Premier League next Sunday (17 December), and that may well be that.
Moyes will hope it does not come to that, of course, but the shocking defeat to Fulham may have huge ramifications for both him and the club.
