‘I would’ve done it’: FA Cup winning manager says he would’ve taken the Tottenham job with no pay. Ange Postecoglou has settled in well at Tottenham, but it’s easy to forget that Spurs struggled to find a manager before hiring the Australian.
Indeed, after the departure of Antonio Conte, Spurs went all around the houses in search for a new gaffer, and, at one point, Harry Redknapp said that he’d happily have gone in.
Many wondered whether or not Redknapp was joking with those comments, but speaking on Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel, Redknapp has stated that he was indeed serious about the idea of going back to Tottenham, claiming that he actually would’ve taken the job without any salary attached if he had to.
Redknapp would’ve taken the Tottenham job
The FA Cup winning manager spoke about the idea of returning to Spurs.
“No I would’ve done, I would’ve done it for nothing. I would’ve done it. I would’ve loved it honestly. If I could’ve had the players I feel it would’ve been different I would’ve gone in and got them going and given the place a lift. So I was serious yeah, not that I expected it to happen, but I was asked and I said I would, and I would’ve done,” Redknapp said.
Better than Stellini
As much as we can joke about the idea of Redknapp going back to Tottenham at the age of 74, getting him in towards the end of last season mightn’t have been the worst idea.
Cristian Stellini was, of course, the man tasked with holding down the fort after Antonio Conte’s departure, but he was quickly dismissed, and it’s hard to imagine that Redknapp would’ve done a worse job than the Italian.
Say what you will about Redknapp’s tactics in the year of 2023, he’s always been a good man manager and if he was tasked with taking charge of a few games towards the end of last season, he probably would’ve lifted spirits at Spurs.
Maybe Tottenham would be playing European football this season if they went for Redknapp rather than Stellini.
