In The Money: £3.9m cash injection on cards at Tottenham after Sunday announcement
Tottenham have enjoyed a mixed start to the season in all competitions, with a positive start in the Premier League recently going downhill quite quickly.
Mixing that with the early Carabao Cup exit and Ange Postecoglou will be determined to bring back the good times after topping the Premier League table earlier in the season
Sunday 3 December saw the FA Cup third-round draw made, with another door opened in terms of trying to secure new silverware at Tottenham after years of waiting.
It was confirmed that Spurs will be welcoming Burnley to London in the FA Cup, with the ties set to take place over the weekend of January 6/7.
As well as the chance for silverware, it’s also another opportunity to add cash to the Tottenham bank, which is always welcomed.
The FA has already confirmed the prize fund for this season, with the winners taking home a total of £3.9million for their troubles, with £3million of that for winning the final two rounds.
Having faltered in the Premier League recently, Postecoglou will likely not make the same mistake of resting as many players as he did against Fulham earlier in the season.
The likes of Son Heung-min, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Cristian Romero all started on the bench before the game ended in defeat on penalties.
Burnley are likely to feel the full force of that earlier failure next month, with some key names expected to be back from injury and silverware on the line past that clash.
Losing to then-Championship side Sheffield United last season in the 5th round and Middlesbrough the year before at the same stage, the same-old excuses cannot be made, likely bringing home only £225,000 on both occasions.
It is time for a serious cup run, and that added £3.9million would not go to waste.
