Sam Allardyce sends sympathy to Moyes after West Ham developments

Sam Allardyce offers sympathy to David Moyes after West Ham United drama

Sam Allardyce has offered his sympathy to David Moyes after the stressful end to West Ham United’s win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday 12 November.

The Hammers ended a four-match winless run with a 3-2 win over Steve Cooper’s side at the London Stadium but were made to work for the three points with Tomas Soucek heading home the winning goal with only two minutes left on the clock.

Sunday’s game was one of many Premier League matches with a thrilling end over the weekend and while Allardyce admitted it was excellent for spectators, he did admit that it will be nowhere near as enjoyable for managers like Moyes.

Speaking on talkSPORT (14 November, 9:45) he said: “It’s been great, keep it up. It’s great for the fans, but it’s not great for the managers by the way. Their blood pressure will be sky high I’m telling you.

“I’m sure Moysey was relieved when he saw that third goal go in and the final whistle went. I saw the anxiety in the Chelsea, Manchester City game, so it’s great thrilling but not so clever for the managers.”

    Chaos

There have been few weekends in the Premier League with as many chaotic matches as last week’s offering, where four or five matches were all decided in the closing seconds with some even having multiple goals just in stoppage time.

For the average fan and the neutral, it has been incredible to watch, but for managers like Moyes, they must have felt like they have aged years over the course of the 90 minutes. Soucek’s late header not only changed the complexion of the match but also Moyes’ position over the international break.

Calls for the Scotsman’s head had been growing at the London Stadium as the Hammers’ struggled for form in the Premier League, but with Sunday’s three points, Moyes has once again ensured that he will keep his place in the West Ham dugout.

He would have undoubtedly liked for it to be a much easier win for his side and will be hoping they can pick up a few more conclusive wins after the international break, however, the drama that would have been torture to watch from the sidelines served him well in the end.

After all the hunger for those moments of ecstasy is exactly why managers put up with the stress that Allardyce touched on in the first place.
