Greek media wowed by James Ward-Prowse in West Ham United win v Olympiacos
West Ham United battled their way to a 1-0 win over Olympiacos on Thursday 9 November in the Europa League at the London Stadium.
Lucas Paqueta got the only goal of the game, and you could tell in his assist that revenge was on the mind of the squad for the defeat in the reverse fixture.
The goal even wowed Greek media outlets, but it was the work before the finish from James Ward-Prowse that caught the eye more than most.
Writing in their review of the match, Sport24 were left wowed by the piece of magic that unlocked the away side at the London Stadium.
“West Ham took advantage of their good time and managed to get in front of the score,” they wrote.
“In the 73rd minute, Ward-Prowse found Paqueta in an excellent way at the back of the Olympiakos defence, with the Brazilian sending the ball into the net at once. Initially, the assistant disallowed the goal, but VAR corrected the decision as he was being covered by Ortega.”

In what was another day of disappointment for Ward-Prowse on the international stage, he was once again shining for his club on the European stage.
Gareth Southgate must be having a laugh at the fact that the central midfielder is not included in his selection once again, and the proof shows that it is a laughable decision.
Kalvin Phillips hasn’t even been embarrassingly bad this season, he just hasn’t literally played and probably only kicked a ball about five times in a Manchester City shirt.
Ward-Prowse is nearly playing every single minute in all competitions, and not only that, he is producing the goods on a regular basis to back that up too.
In one sense, it is good for the club who get to wrap up one of their star men in cotton wool over the break, but on a personal level, no one deserves a spot more.
The Greek media can see, let’s hope Southgate can soon enough.
