“As far as I know…” – Levy risks fans’ wrath as Ornstein shares extremely discouraging transfer update

David Ornstein has shared the latest on Tottenham’s transfer budget ahead of the January transfer window and it is not good news.

Tottenham suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Chelsea as Pochettino’s side beat his old club 4-1.

But it was the injuries to James Maddison and Micky van de Ven and red cards to Romero and Udogie which has been the biggest negative for Spurs.

The red cards and injuries has really exposed Tottenham’s squad depth issues, in particular in the defense.

Eric Dier is the only available centre-back now available for Ange. With Van de Ven’s injury expected to be a long-term one, Spurs are for sure expected to be in the market to sign a centre-back in January.

Similarly, the midfield options are quite thin as well. Bissouma and Sarr have been the preferred duo for Ange so far but both of them will be unavailable for several weeks during AFCON which starts in January.

Hojbjerg has been solid whenever he has come on for Spurs but is strongly linked wit a move away in January due to the lack of playing time under Ange. And Bentancur has only been back after a long-term injury but still has not fully been back to his best.

Hence, a midfielder in January would also be a priority for Spurs.

Ornstein reports that, as far as he knows, Tottenham will have limited funds available in January.

He suggests that a significant portion of the money expected from the sale of Harry Kane has already been spent, leaving the club with little room for significant additions.

Ornstein further suggests that Spurs will need to be creative in their negotiations to secure deals for potential targets, whether in January or the summer.

While confirming Tottenham’s interest in another center-back, Ornstein emphasises that the financial constraints might make it challenging for the club to make significant moves in the upcoming transfer window.

He mentions that the club had intended to offload some players in the summer to create space for new signings, but those plans did not materialize.

    He told The Athletic:

“As far as I know, there isn’t much money at all for this winter. Spurs knew Kane was likely to leave and spent much of the money they would end up receiving for him in advance.

Then some after, too, at both senior and youth level. So they will need to be creative and I’m sure they have targets… whether they arrive in January, the summer or at all let’s see.

There were players they wanted to shift in the summer to create space for new faces, only to see them stay put. I think they may have wanted another centre-back so that’s one to watch and could be even more pressing if Van de Ven is ruled out for a prolonged period.”

If Levy does not back Ange in the January transfer window it will be a huge disappointment.

Ange needs players more than ever in January to help bolster his very thin squad which is not capable of competing with the likes of City etc for the entirety of the season.

All the good work Ange has done so far could go to waste if we do not sign at least a couple of players in the positions required the most to stop our season from derailing.
