JAN VERTONGHEN REACTS TO WHAT TOTTENHAM WERE DOING WITH 9 MEN V CHELSEA

Jan Vertonghen may have left Tottenham Hotspur back in 2020, but he is still keeping tabs on Spurs and was watching the London derby against Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea on Monday night.

Tottenham Hotspur signed Jan Vertonghen from Ajax in 2012.

Vertonghen left Tottenham in the summer of 2020 and moved to Benfica.

The 36-year-old Belgian defender is now playing for Anderlecht.

Vertonghen worked with Mauricio Pochettino when the latter was in charge of Tottenham.

Jan Vertonghen on Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

Ange Postecoglou is now the manager of Tottenham, and it seems that Vertonghen was surprised at the way Spurs were playing against Chelsea in the second half after going down to nine men.

Cristian Romero was sent off in the 33rd minute.

Destiny Udogie was dismissed on 55 minutes.

    Can’t wait for this one…

Highest defensive line I’ve ever seen in my life 😮‍💨

Despite playing most of the second half with just nine men, Spurs head coach Postecoglou continued to deploy a high defensive line.

Spurs were always trying to score rather than sit back and soak up the pressure from Chelsea.

In the end, Chelsea won 4-1, but had Son Heung-min scored from the late chance that he had, then things could have been  different. Ange Postecoglou right to stick to his philosophy

In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur were right to play the way they did.

Former Chelsea manager Ange Postecoglou does not tend to change his ways.

    Ange Postecoglou

    Postecoglou sticks to his principles.

And we have to praise the Tottenham boss for that.

Spurs are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 26 points from 11 matches.

Tottenham are a point behind leaders and defending champions Manchester City.

Liverpool are third with 24 points from 11 games, level on points with Arsenal in fourth.

Spurs are very much in the race for the UEFA Champions Lea

gue places in the Premier League table this season.
