Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has made his feelings perfectly clear on Tottenham before returning to his old club for a Premier League clash

Mauricio Pochettino has delivered a fresh verdict on former club Tottenham ahead of returning with Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino has given an honest Tottenham verdict ahead of returning to his former club with Chelsea in the Premier League next Monday. The Argentine enjoyed a fruitful four-and-a-half years in north London before he was dismissed in 2019 with the majority of Tottenham fans left heartbroken by his departure, however those feelings changed drastically earlier this year.

After weeks of interviews were held, Pochettino was appointed as the permanent successor to Graham Potter at Chelsea, tarnishing his legacy at Spurs in the eyes of some. With the Lilywhites also looking for a manager in the summer, annoyance at chairman Daniel Levy was high for not even contacting Pochettino about a sensational return.

Instead, Spurs appointed Ange Postecoglou, and in hindsight, it has become very clear that was the right decision. While Pochettino has overseen four league defeats with his new club, Spurs sit top of the table with eight wins and two draws from 10 league games.

Following the latest set of results, there is now 14 points between the two London clubs before they meet at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday, November 6. However, the Blues will first be looking to advance further in the Carabao Cup as they take on Blackburn next Wednesday, but Pochettino will have to do it without his right-hand man.

During the clash with Brentford, assistant manager Jesus Perez was shown a red card by Simon Hooper after a touchline altercation with a member of the Bees coaching staff. Attention will swiftly turn to a return at Tottenham after the cup tie at Stamford Bridge with Pochettino delivering his latest verdict on his former club.

When asked by Glenn Hoddle about his time with Spurs on TNT Sports, he said: “I think we cannot change our history and I’m very proud of my past, but we need to move on and now we are here. I need to show we are together at Chelsea. At the moment I am so happy and I hope that we can improve, but we are in a different project and we need to be clever in the way we develop ideas.”

Pochettino is expected to be welcomed into a hostile environment next Monday with Postecoglou now at the helm and looking for his fifth win at his new home that would keep Spurs unbeaten in league action.
