‘HE DOESN’T CARE’: MICHAEL OWEN SAYS TOTTENHAM MIDFIELDER ‘GIVES THE BALL AWAY A FAIR BIT’

Michael Owen has spoken about the bravery James Maddison has with the ball for Tottenham Hotspur following their 2-0 win over Fulham on Monday night.

Ange Postecoglou’s side moved back to the top of the Premier League table, with James Maddison getting on the scoresheet and scoring his first goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

After the game, Michael Owen shared how the 26-year-old ‘gives the ball away a fair bit’, but it’s all because of the ‘risks’ he takes with the ball, as he told Premier League Productions (23/10/23 at 10:05 pm).

For a very long time, Spurs fans have craved a player of James Maddison’s quality, but for one reason or another, that player hasn’t arrived.

But, better late than never because they now have that quick-thinking playmaker who just makes everything tick around him.

The England international can argue all day that, as of this moment, he is the signing of the summer, with three goals and five assists to his name (transfermarkt).

The new Spurs fan favourite arrived from relegated Leicester City in the summer, with legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel annoyed as to why he didn’t showcase these current performances at the King Power Stadium.

Nonetheless, these were the flowers Owen gave to James Maddison after another stellar performance from the midfielder.

“He is so brave with the ball,” said Owen. “Even in the first half, I just purred with three or four of his passes. He just whips them into that frontman. Takes risks.

“He gives the ball away a fair bit, but that’s exactly what you have to do if you are going to provide the assists or score the goals that he scores.

“It’s brilliant to watch. He is always trying to make something happen. There are a lot of safe players around. They pass it around and keep their stats up and the percentage of keeping the ball.

“He doesn’t care. He literally doesn’t care – he will risk it every time he gets it. On those magic moments he creates and scores.”

Whatever happens during these next few months and wherever Spurs end up in May, they should enjoy every minute of what is happening now.

It wasn’t so long ago that they were conceding five inside 20 minutes at St James’ Park, but now they look like a different animal altogether.

The main aim at the start of the campaign was to return to Europe and, as of this moment, there is every chance that will happen now.
