Revealed: West Ham open talks over new Antonio deal – sources
West Ham have opened talks with striker Michail Antonio over a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.
The 33-year-old’s current deal expires in June 2024 with the Irons holding the option to extend his stay a further 12 months.
But Antonio is in discussions over a completely new agreement at the London Stadium.
The Jamaica international was the subject of offers in the summer transfer window, with Saudi Arabian outfit Al Ettifaq the most interested in signing him.
Antonio eventually stayed at West Ham and has had a good start to the new season as the first-choice striker for David Moyes’ side.
He remains a key part of the plans for the Irons’ future as they embark on another season of European participation.
The veteran forward has scored two goals in five appearances this term.
Antonio is the all-time record goalscorer for the Irons in the Premier League era, notching 63 goals in 233 appearances in the top flight.
He managed 10 league goals in three consecutive seasons between 2019 and 2022.
Danny Ings is the backup striker for Moyes following the big-money exit of Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta in the summer window.
The Irons failed with moves for Hugo Ekitike and Yuri Alberto in the summer window.
Moyes’ side, who have picked up 10 points from their first five fixtures, face Backa Topola in the Europa League on Thursday (21 September).
