West Ham United open to £50m offers from Manchester City and Newcastle United for Nayef Aguerd
West Ham are open to offers of around £50million for centre-back Nayef Aguerd next summer, according to Claret & Hugh.
Aguerd was linked with a move away from West Ham in the most recent transfer window but stayed put at the London Stadium.
However, in a post uploaded by site founder Hughie Southon on Sunday [17 September], it is claimed the Hammers’ stance has now changed.
It comes on the back of Aguerd being at fault for the second of Man City’s goals in their 3-1 win at West Ham on Saturday [16 September].
The post read: “Nayef Aguerd – having been linked with both Manchester City and Newcastle – could be on his way if the right sort of bid were to be made next summer.
“David Moyes didn’t name him when claiming City’s second goal was poor in yesterday’s comments but it was clear he held the central defender responsible.
“And it is not the first time his mistakes have drawn a response from the Hammers boot room where we have discovered there have been words about his performances in the past.
“And it now seems that were offers to be made in and around £50million by either club – or others – the club would certainly take a look.”
Not the first time
As well as being linked with City and Newcastle, Aguerd was also touted as a target for Liverpool and Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad.
The Morocco international’s stock could not have been much higher at that point, but his performance against City showed he is not infallible.
With summer signing Konstantinos Mavropanos watching on from the bench, any more mistakes from Aguerd could see him lose his place.
Aguerd will be disappointed with his clearance that led to Bernardo Silva’s deft finish, which was highlighted by Alan Shearer on Match of the Day.
Speaking after the game, Moyes said he was “disappointed” with the goal and labelled it a “poor” one to concede.
Aguerd may not have been named, but it was clear who the West Ham boss was referring to.
It is not the first time he has been at fault this season, and a spell out of the side may well do the 27-year-old some good.
