Tottenham have cooled their interest in Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba, sources have told Football Insider.
The Burkinabe star, 24, has been widely linked with several Premier League sides – especially Spurs and Newcastle. But a well-placed source has told Football Insider that his £50million price tag is proving “prohibitive” and is likely to prevent a move before next week’s 1 September deadline.
Xabi Alonso’s side are looking to build, having already lost winger Moussa Diaby to the Premier League and striker Sardar Azmoun to Roma this summer.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (25 August) that Leverkusen are also set to block an approach from Liverpool for versatile defender Piero Hincapie. Tottenham have already spent big money on Micky van de Ven this summer, while Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has claimed he is not currently in the market for any further signings before next week’s transfer deadline.
Spurs are ready to swoop for another centre-back, however, with Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo a long-term target for the Lilywhites.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (25 August) that Fulham and Tottenham are in talks over a swap deal involving Adarabioyo, Eric Dier and cash.
Tapsoba is under contract at Leverkusen until June 2026. He has started in both of the club’s games so far this season and netted in their 8-0 DFB-Pokal win over Teutonia 05 earlier this month.
The former Vitoria Guimaraes star notched two goals and two assists in 47 games across all competitions last term.
