Journalist claims Spurs now ‘accept’ that player will not fulfil his potential

Journalist Paul Brown has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are now accepting of the fact that Tanguy Ndombele is not going to fulfil his potential at the club.

There was renewed hope among Spurs fans that Ndombele could revive his Tottenham career under Ange Postecoglou, with some reports over recent weeks indicating that the Australian has been a fan of the Frenchman for a long time (L’Equipe via Sport Witness).

However, the midfielder has not featured in pre-season so far and he is thought to be the subject of interest from Galatasaray (Sabah).

The Daily Mirror reported earlier this week that Tottenham are now set to finally cut their losses on Ndombele amidst the interest from the Turkish club, with the North London club allegedly willing to move the player on for around £11m this summer.

It could be time to say goodbye to Tanguy Ndombele

This claim has now been backed up by Brown, who believes that Spurs would be happy to recoup some money for the 26-year-old this summer.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I know there’s a lot of Spurs fans who are still hoping that Ndombele will become a big player for them. “I know there are a lot of Spurs fans who like him a lot because they see the tricks and the little bits of magic he comes up with every now and then. They see a player there who, if he can do that more consistently, could go on to great things at the club.

“But I genuinely don’t think it’s going to happen for him at Spurs. He has been quite happy to play away from the club for some time.

“A succession of managers have had a bit of a go at him, both in public and in private, but it hasn’t lit a fire underneath him and he hasn’t really responded to any of them.

“It’s hard to see him finding a way back into the team. I think it’d be very unlikely for Spurs to show that kind of faith in him now, so I think he probably needs a move. I think the club accept that.

“If they were to find a home for him where they can recoup some of the huge fee they paid, I think they’d be only too happy to do it.”

I was always a little sceptical of the suggestion that Ndombele could revive his Spurs career under Postecoglou as the Frenchman evidently lacks the kind of engine required for the Australian’s high-intensity approach.

It does not seem as if the Frenchman has managed to convince the new Tottenham boss so far.
