Postecoglou could now perform major U-turn on ‘amazing’ Tottenham player

Tottenham are just a week away from kicking off the new Premier League season, with Ange Postecoglou the latest to give it a go as manager.

After last season’s disastrous campaign under Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini, Spurs are once again starting the season with renewed optimism. For some players, the arrival of Postecoglou means a brand new and fresh start. For others, it could mean they are pushed out the exit door.

One of the players who did seem to heading for the exit door earlier in the summer was Ivan Perisic. However, according to Football.London, the Croatian winger could actually be in for a reprieve.

According to Football.London, Perisic’s form in pre-season, coupled with the injury sustained by Bryan Gil, means Postecoglou could now have a rethink when it comes to the 34-year-old.

Perisic signed on a free-transfer but has not quite delivered the form he showed at both Bayern and Inter Milan.

But with little in the way of new signings and Gil’s injury, he could now stay. Tottenham could well play with new signing Destiny Udogie as their starting man on the left. However, Perisic’s experience could be big for Udogie’s development, so there is that to consider for Postecoglou as well.

Perisic should only stay at Spurs if he’s happy with bit-part role

Let’s be brutally honest here, Ivan Perisic has not exactly worked out as a signing for Tottenham has he. Despite him coming in on a free, he’s still not delivered like many expected. If he is to stay this season, then he needs to be nothing more than a squad man. That, or he finds his best form and actually delivers for the club.

Lauded for having ‘amazing‘ ability by Jamie O’Hara, Perisic really does need to produce the goods or he’ll soon be on his way.

Club want to get their £32m player to join Tottenham next week

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a massive number of players this summer.

The north London club are in the headlines every day being linked with new players, and while most of these rumours come to nothing, there’s one rumour that just won’t go away. Indeed, Clement Lenglet continues to be linked with Tottenham, and we may be entering a crucial week when it comes to that deal. According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are hoping to find an agreement with Tottenham over Lenglet next week when the two clubs meet in a friendly.

The £32m defender is very much surplus to requirements at Camp Nou at the moment, and given Barcelona’s ongoing financial problems, they want to get him off the books.

Tottenham are interested in making this move, as is the player himself, but from the outside looking in, it looks as though there are a few hurdles to clear.

Tottenham currently have around 30 senior players in their squad, so there will have to be outgoings before Spurs even think about adding more depth options to their side.

Spurs are also close to signing Micky Van de Ven – who plays in the same position as Lenglet, but after such a poor string of defensive performances last season, it wouldn’t be a shock if they were to add two centre-halves to their ranks this summer.

However, with the likes of Joe Rodon, Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga still on the books, Tottenham may have to shift a few bodies before they bring in a player like Lenglet.

The defender probably wouldn’t be a starter if he were to return to Spurs, so while the squad is still as bloated as it is, it’s hard to imagine that they will be in a real rush to sign Lenglet.

Talks will happen next week, but whether or not these discussions come to anything remains to be seen.
