Glenn Hoddle blown away by Tottenham star who has ‘a little bit of everything’

Glenn Hoddle and Owen Hargreaves lauded Tottenham star Lucas Bergvall after the 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday.

The 19-year-old registered another fine performance in Spurs’ Europa League quarter-final first leg clash against the Germans in north London.

The Sweden international officially joined Spurs in July from Djurgårdens IF and has already established himself as a key player despite his young age.

Hoddle believes that Bergvall will become a ‘frightening’ player in the next couple of years as he praised the teenager in his post-match analysis.

The Spurs legend told TNT Sports: ‘He’s got a little bit of everything. For me, the most important thing, he’s been thrown into games but mentality wise he’s coped with it.

‘More than coped with it! He’s just going to grow and grow. He’s learnt so quicky. Some people take two seasons to grow and progress.

‘He’s improved in such a quick space of time. What he’s going to be like when he’s 23, 24 is going to be frightening.

‘He’s earned the right [to be one of the first names on the teamsheet] based on the performances he’s been putting in. Mentality wise, he’s got it, you can see that.’

Hargreaves was also left impressed with Bergvall, adding: ‘He hasn’t even had a blip. Most of the [Tottenham] players this season have had a blip.

‘I think he’s got a bit of grit and a touch of class as well. He’s an elegant player. I think this season will give him so much confident’

‘He’ll go away, have a pre-season and come back a completely different player.

‘He’ll feel established and that’s such a power thing for a young player when you settle into a team and become an integral part of it.’

Spurs return to Europa League action next week with a trip to Germany for the second leg of their quarter-final showdown with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw in the first leg, Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou said: ‘I can’t ask any more of the lads.

‘It was disappointing to concede the way we did, fair strike to the lad [Hugo Ekitike].

‘Even before that I thought we were well in control of the game. I thought it would bare fruit in the second half and it did in every aspect but goals.

‘The second leg is going to be tight for sure, it might even go to extra-time, we’re going to need all the lads ready to go.

‘The good thing is we have most of them back and healthy which is important.’
