View: West Ham star shouldn’t start again after what he did in Wolves defeat

Evan Ferguson ‘will never start for West Ham again’ after what he did v Wolves. Evan Ferguson has had to be patient for his chance at West Ham, though Graham Potter may be regretting his choice to afford him one against Wolves.

Ferguson’s arrival at West Ham was met with a lot of optimism given the way he burst onto the scene with Brighton only a few seasons ago, but his time at the London Stadium has been underwhelming at best.

The Irishman was handed his first start for West Ham in their clash with Wolves, but was hooked after just 45 minutes with the Hammers 1-0 down at the time. Potter’s side went on to lose the game 1-0, showcasing their attacking concerns.

West Ham struggle showcased by Ferguson display

In the opening 45 minutes of the game, West Ham failed to pose any real attacking threat aside from one moment involving Ferguson. The Irishman was afforded a remarkable opportunity to open his tally at West Ham, but completely miskicked his effort from eight yards out, with an open goal in front of him.

Ferguson has not impressed since joining West Ham. That miss typified his performance at Molinuex, and with Niclas Fullkrug back fit, it seems unlikely that he will be named in the starting 11 again between now and the end of the season.

With Potter opting for a more defensive setup, there is a lot of pressure on the forwards to deliver when the opportunities arise, and Ferguson seems incapable of doing that.

West Ham have clear priority for summer window

With Ferguson’s woes on full show, the need for a new striker at West Ham in the summer is becoming more and more evident.

That debate has lingered over the London Stadium for several years now, with the Irons yet to sign a striker capable of nullifying those concerns.

If the Hammers are to progress next season and make anything out of the campaign, a striker capable of scoring goals has to be their number one priority, and they need to be prepared to push the boat out to sign one.
