West Ham Ready to Offload Newbie in Summer Clear-Out. West Ham will listen to offers for striker Niclas Füllkrug in the summer.
That is the latest news from a training ground source who has told C&H that the Hammers are planning a ‘big clear-out’ at the end of the season.
This aligns with what a top source at the London Stadium told us last week when they said, “We’ll have to offload a lot before we can buy.”
Füllkrug has had a stop-start first season at West Ham, the details of which don’t need repeating to supporters for the umpteenth time. Suffice to say, his transfer from Borussia Dortmund hasn’t worked out, and very little has changed since it was revealed the German international was homesick.
Whilst Füllkrug is undoubtedly talented, it’s difficult to see a situation where he becomes the focal point of a team rebuild. Graham Potter would be mad to base his system around a player who is not only injury-prone but also keen to return to the Bundesliga.
Claret & Hugh were told, “Nobody expects him [Füllkrug] to be here next season.”
Realistically, the Hammers will get nowhere near the money paid for the 32-year-old. West Ham agreed to pay Dortmund £27m, including add-ons, for the striker, but the extras will never be triggered.
The true outlay on transfer fees is likely to be closer to £22 million, and the club will be lucky to recoup even half of that
