West Ham dealt hammer blow with player reportedly expected out until April

Niclas Fullkrug update adds insult to injury for West Ham. West Ham United made a major mistake by signing Niclas Fullkrug in the summer.

Niclas Fullkrug was signed for West Ham by the recently departed Tim Steidten. And the 45-year-old German apparently appreciated that he made a big mistake in doing so.

The 32-year-old was clearly a poor signing from the start, and it still amazes me that Steidten thought an ageing, injury-prone striker would be a good fit for the Hammers in the Premier League. Unsurprisingly, Fullkrug’s time at the London Stadium has been just as bad as many predicted.

He has missed the majority of the campaign through injury, with his most recent problem coming when he picked up a hamstring injury away at Aston Villa at the start of last month.

The injury occurred when he put in a sprint – the first time I’ve seen him do that in a West Ham shirt.

And that says it all really doesn’t it.

Niclas Fullkrug update adds insult to injury for West Ham. The Germany international has been out of action over the past four weeks or so. Graham Potter moved to address his centre-forward deficiencies in January by bringing Evan Ferguson to the London Stadium on loan.

But when can we expect to see Fullkrug back in action?

Well it’s not good news it seems.

The Evening Standard claim that the Hammers do not expect to see Fullkrug return from injury until the final six weeks of the season.

That means that we won’t see him in action for West Ham until April!

I don’t expect the 32-year-old to be at the club beyond the end of the summer transfer window.

He has proven to be a terrible addition for us, especially for the £27.5 million fee we paid Borussia Dortmund to acquire his signature.

Niclas Fullkrug and West Ham were never a match made in heaven, and they were never going to be. With his hamstring injury set to keep him out until April, his days in East London are numbered in my opinion.
