West Ham overcome major hurdle to clinch deal in late night breaking news. West Ham United have overcome the major hurdle preventing them from clinching a big deal and an announcement is expected on deadline day.

West Ham’s winter transfer window has been complicated for several reasons. The Hammers already knew they needed to sign a striker. But especially since losing Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug long term.

West Ham’s transfer plans have been far from straightforward in what is a notoriously difficult window.

Firstly majority owner David Sullivan took back ultimate control of the club’s dealings, demoting technical director Tim Steidten.

Then Julen Lopetegui was sacked and replaced by Graham Potter.

That saw an obvious shift in the kind of player West Ham would be targeting while time was ticking away. Steidten was then sent packing, leaving the country and having his access to club premises and systems revoked. West Ham overcome major hurdle to clinch deal

The Hammers then paid Chelsea £1.2m to bring in Kyle Macauley as their new head of recruitment.

Once Potter was reunited with Macauley last week, West Ham’s transfer business suddenly crystalized.

The Irons have been linked with a completely different profile of player since. Young, talented, hot prospects have suddenly emerged on the radar.

West Ham’s business has burst into life going into the last 24 hours of the window with three striker deals and a move for a midfielder being worked on.

Now West Ham have overcome a major hurdle to clinch a deal in late night breaking news. .The Hammers have been trying to get deals done for two hugely promising 18-year-old strikers.

West Ham have been in talks to sign Celtic’s Daniel Cummings and Lorient’s Eli Junior Kroupi before the deadline. A move for an unnamed midfielder has also been mooted by Fabrizio Romano.

One target on West Ham’s agenda from as soon as Potter was appointed has been Evan Ferguson.

The Hammers have faced stiff competition from a number of clubs including Monday night’s opponents Chelsea. It was reported that Ferguson had been in east London for a medical today.

But given his longstanding ankle injury issues, there were legitimate fears the 20-year-old Irishman may not pass.

Well there’s been a hugely significant development that will dismiss any fears over Ferguson’s injury.

Because Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has announced Ferguson has passed his West Ham medical.

And West Ham are now planning to officially unveil their loan signing in an announcement on Monday.

‘Formal Ferguson announcement on deadline day’

“He’s completed his medical and I’m told in the last few minutes that Evan Ferguson has indeed passed that medical, which we expected to happen,” Sheth said on Sky Sports News at 9.30pm.

“And a formal announcement of his move from Brighton to West Ham United is expected on deadline day. “West Ham will pay a loan fee we’re told and will cover his wages.”

Ferguson’s wages are said to be a modest – by Premier League standards – £30,000 per week.

That works out at £600,000 in wages over the next five months.

Some Hammers fans are disappointed that the deal is a straight loan. But a top club insider has given hope a permanent deal is very much in the thoughts of West Ham and Brighton for the summer.
