West Ham set to take irresponsible risk by signing unproven attacker for £30 million – view

West Ham set to take an enormous risk by signing attacker for £30 million before deadline day. West Ham United are lining up numerous transfers before deadline is thrust upon us tomorrow.

The January transfer window is nearing its end, with deadline day closing in and expediting the need for West Ham to get some new signings over the line. Graham Potter has to sign at least one, but preferably two players before the transfer window slams shut.

As things stand, Evan Ferguson seems to be the player most likely to join the Hammers, and his move to join us could now be imminent.

West Ham need to bring a proven striker to the London Stadium, that’s for sure. And despite Ferguson’s struggles over the past 12 months, he has proven himself in the Premier League.

The thing is, the 20-year-old is not the only centre-forward on the Hammers’ radar. West Ham are said to be eyeing up a move for someone else who’s plying his trade further afield.

And it seems like the Hammers could be about to take a totally irresponsible risk.

West Ham eyeing risky £30m signing before deadline day

The Hammers have numerous irons in different fires heading into the final 36 hours or so of the January window.

What is clear to see is that Potter is intent on signing a centre-forward. However, I’m concerned that West Ham could be heading down the wrong path…

Daily Mail claim that the Hammers have lodged a £30 million bid for Lorient striker Eli Junior Kroupi.

The teenager has emerged as a transfer target for West Ham over the past few days. Signing an 18-year-old for that kind of money would be a massive risk from West Ham.

Have we learned nothing from the Luis Guilherme deal? Give me Evan Ferguson any day of the week over Kroupi, and that’s not even to say that the young Frenchman is a bad player!

Ferguson instead of Kroupi please West Ham

The fact is, we know the Brighton striker can produce the goods in the Premier League.

Kroupi possesses impressive pace and is a good finisher, with 10 goals to his name for Lorient this season.

However, he doesn’t have the physicality needed to succeed in the Premier League yet – unsurprisingly so for an 18-year-old.

I cannot picture the scrawny French teenager leading the line for the Hammers and performing the role required for a centre-forward in Graham Potter’s system.

Ferguson is the man for the job as far as I’m concerned.

If we can pick the Brighton forward up on loan with an option to buy him for anywhere between £30-40 million, I think signing him should be a no-brainer. Deadline day will be upon us tomorrow, so West Ham need to get some deals in place now.

Eli Junior Kroupi is not the player we need. I’m hoping we are using Lorient in order to flush out Brighton so that they lower their demands for Ferguson.
