West Ham held talks this week to sever agreement as windfall fails. West Ham held a failed meeting to find a termination agreement with Julen Lopetegui this week, according to Sacha Tavolieri.
The Belgian journalist reported on 24 January that the 58-year-old is on gardening leave after being sacked by the Hammers, as per the terms of his exit agreement. The objective at a meeting held this week was to find an amicable termination agreement at the London Stadium to free him up to become manager of Belgium.
It appears that these talks have failed as Rudi Garcia was named as the Red Devils’ head coach on Friday (24 January).

The former Real Madrid boss is still being paid by the Irons, which is expected according to his post-dismissal agreement in East London.
With that being said, the Belgium FA needed to work hard to end that deal with the Hammers if they wanted to employ Lopetegui.
The Red Devils sacked Domenico Tedesco last week and clearly were keen to bring a new head coach in quickly and, with Garcia, they’ve done exactly that.
Given that the Frenchman won’t take charge of a game until March, it could have left plenty of time for a deal to be reached with West Ham and their former manager.

The ex-Wolves boss was sacked just six months into his reign at the London Stadium, so it is unknown what financial figure would need to be reached.
The Spaniard signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Irons [The Guardian] and may take some convincing to cancel his payments unless he has a true desire to return to management quickly.
