100% ground duels, 100% dribbles: ‘Top-class’ summer signing was West Ham’s best performer vs Southampton – View

Football100% ground duels, 100% dribbles: Aaron Wan-Bissaka was West Ham’s best performer vs Southampton. West Ham United overcame Southampton 1-0 in Thursday’s Premier League meeting at St Mary’s Stadium.

The victory has lifted the Hammers above Manchester United to 13th place in the league standings. West Ham made a poor start to the away encounter and were lucky to reach half-time without conceding.

The Saints created several excellent goalscoring opportunities, but Lukasz Fabianski’s brilliance plus their poor finishing meant they couldn’t break the deadlock.

The Irons also lost their experienced goalkeeper and Max Kilman to injury in the first-half, but despite the setbacks, the visitors improved after the break to score the opener.

Tomas Soucek headed Edson Alvarez’s cross back across goal and Niclas Fullkrug flicked it on to Jarrod Bowen, who tapped it home. Southampton tried to make a comeback, but West Ham held on to seal their sixth win of the season.

Bowen scored the decisive goal, but we believe that Aaron Wan-Bissaka was the best player for Julen Lopetegui’s side yesterday.

The ‘top-class’ summer arrival was solid at the back and made vital clearances for his side.

He made a great run early in the game to set up Carlos Soler, but the midfielder missed the brilliant opportunity by hitting the crossbar.

Wan-Bissaka completed 100% of his dribbles and won 100% of his ground duels.

He had 64 touches and completed 34 of his 42 passes (81% accuracy).

The former Manchester United star also registered three clearances, three tackles and three key passes, though he lost the ball on 10 occasions.

Wan-Bissaka arrived in East London last summer, and he has hit the ground running at the London Stadium. He has featured in 17 Premier League matches for West Ham, scoring two Goals in the process.
