Brand new Michael Carrick twist will leave the West Ham fans completely lost for words

Incredible new Michael Carrick twist will leave the West Ham fans completely lost for words. Michael Carrick is a very familiar name amongst the West Ham United fans.

He spent six years at West Ham before joining Tottenham in 2004, and then Manchester United two years later. Michael Carrick has been strongly linked with a return to West Ham recently, with the likes of Henry Winter mooting the Middlesbrough boss for the Hammers hot-seat.

Carrick has really impressed in charge of Boro. He has his team playing some superb football, and they’re currently sitting just outside the play-off spots.

The 43-year-old favours a possession-based system, and has his team playing with really high intensity and energy levels. I personally think he’d be a good fit at West Ham.

However, there is a problem it seems…

Michael Carrick twist will leave West Ham fans lost for words

Lopetegui is clearly a dead man walking at the London Stadium right now.

I’m sure that it will only be a matter of time before he’s handed his P-45. And Carrick is definitely someone who would bring a more attractive style of football to West Ham.

However, it’s looking unlikely that the 43-year-old former Hammer will get the job at the London Stadium.

According to a report from Caught Offside, the Hammers board are being put off from making a move for Michael Carrick because of the compensation they would have to pay Middlesbrough.

Seriously, that’s just no way to run a football club is it.

It was actually claimed earlier this week that Carrick and Graham Potter are in a two-way race to replace Lopetegui.

It seems like Potter could now be the leading candidate for the job though.

I’m not saying that Carrick is definitely the man we need to replace Lopetegui, but the compensation due to prise him away from Middlesbrough should not be the reason stopping the board from appointing him.

That’s even more the case if the Hammers owners rate Carrick highly. As is always the way, taking the cheap option always ends up being more expensive in the long run.

Had West Ham appointed Ruben Amorim in the summer, we wouldn’t be in the mess that we’re currently in.

If Julen Lopetegui is sacked, West Ham will have to pay off the Spaniard for the remainder of his contract.

The way the Hammers owners work reminds me of how the council repair pot-holes with cheap concrete – they just need refilling every few weeks.

If West Ham board really like Michael Carrick and are only not pursuing a move for him due to the money required to prise him away from the Riverside, then they need to take a long hard look at themselves.
