Tim Steidten has undergone his fair share of criticism at West Ham United. As the Technical Director who oversaw the squad rebuild in August, he has fairly or unfairly, been seen as the man responsible for giving ‘Lopetegui a defence who can’t defend, a midfield who cannot run and an attack aged all over 30’. Or something like that.
But one of the perennial problems has been the ‘High and Dry’ Hammers- those who came in under ‘the previous administration’ and were expensive, unused and subsequently shipped out on loan come deadline day last Summer.
Nayef Aguerd has gone onto good things at Real Sociedad, James Ward-Prowse is at least getting the occasional game at Nottingham Forest: Winger Maxi Cornet, however is the likely ‘boomerang’ loan, West Ham now expecting him to return early in January at the early closure of a virtually unused spell at Southampton.
But if new reports are true then negotiations are already underway to sell Cornet into the Championship in January. Fantastic news for West Ham who must have despaired of ever getting his £55k a week off the books. French site 225foot.com confirm that both Blackburn Rovers and Watford are interested in signing Cornet in January.

He’ll have to take a whopping £40k a week-plus pay cut to make the move, which has always been the stumbling block to date. However the report suggests that Cornet is now keen on a move to restart his stalled Ivory Coast international career.
Now if Tim Steidten pulls that off, he’ll be back ‘in credit’ with West Ham fans, big time. If he also brings in a decent striker under thirty in January – he’d really be a genius!
