A late penalty from Jarrod Bowen was enough for the Hammers to edge out United, who now face familiar calls to replace Erik ten Hag and bring a new face in.
For the Hammers, a win was massive as well as Julen Lopetegui has been a man under pressure in his early days as manager. In the end, Bowen’s controversial penalty sealed the deal but not before West Ham had goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski to thank for a number of fine saves.
Indeed, one in particular in the first half was very impressive and according to former Everton man Don Hutchison, it was right from the top drawer from the Hammers stopper.

Speaking on the save from Fabianski against United for Premier League Productions, Hutchison admitted that the Hammers star had produced a world-class moment in the game.
“It’s a world-class save. It’s a wonderful ball in from Christian Eriksen, so difficult to defend against, and I think it comes off Lucas Paqueta. Fabianski does so well to get down to his left,” Hutchison said.
Goalkeepers are worth their weight in gold
While the clamour every summer in the transfer market seems to be getting a striker or creative player who can get the goals, a solid goalkeeper is often forgotten about.
West Ham paid just £7m to sign Fabianski from Swansea back in 2018 and he’s shown to be quite the signing over the years. Fabianski has become one of those reliable Premier League goalkeepers who never seem to let the side down and against Man United today, he was right there when needed.
If Lopetegui and West Ham are to get out of trouble, then big saves like this from Fabianski are crucial.
