What is van de Ven doing? Awful defending from Spurs as Mateta gives Palace the lead

What is van de Ven doing? Awful defending from Spurs as Mateta gives Palace the lead. Crystal Palace have taken a deserved lead against Tottenham.

It has been a poor start to the game from the North London club, with Ange’s side struggling to deal with Palace’s intense pressing.

They tried to play it out from the back a couple of times but were eventually punished as they lost the ball deep in their own half.

It’s poor defending from Spurs collectively and especially Micky van de Ven who fails to judge a pass before the ball is stolen away from him.

Eze’s pass then finds Jean-Philippe Mateta in the penalty box who just picks his spot and slots into the bottom corner.

    Watch the goal below:

This is not the first the Dutchman has been caught out at the back. He was also criticised for his role in the goal conceded against Brentford.

Micky van de Ven’s time at Tottenham

Despite the few rare instances of mistakes, Micky van de Ven has proven to be an outstanding signing for Spurs. He joined last summer and has very quickly established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the league.

His partnership with Cristian Romero at the back was one of the best last season. However, the pair have collectively struggled this season despite strong individual performances from Micky van de Ven.

The performances have even attracted interest from Real Madrid who are reportedly now showing interest in signing him.

    TBH says:

While Micky van de Ven will feel disappointed for his role in the Palace goal, it was not entirely his fault.

This was collectively a horror show against Palace, perhaps one of our worst performances under Ange.

We let a team who has now won a single game this season completely dominate us. The scoreline could have easily been much worse as we were lucky to have only conceded one.
