Cundy names ‘Genius’ manager who wants West Ham job, O’Hara would love it to happen

Jose Mourinho as next West Ham United boss gathers pace, Jamie O’Hara can’t believe it. Jose Mourinho has been touted with a sensational Premier League return at West Ham United as Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara react to his latest comments.

The former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham manager spoke on a potential return to England [Ed Aarons] after his Fenerbahce side salvaged a 1-1 draw against his former team Man United in the Europa League on Thursday [24 October].

In response to those comments, Cundy said live on talkSPORT [24 October, 10:49pm] that he believes Mourinho was calling out to the Hammers, with co-host O’Hara in disbelief at the prospect of ‘The Special One’ turning out in the East London dugout.

Cundy said: “Basically, it’s a call to West Ham. He says ‘in two years’ [he wants to be back in England] but he means it now.

“Everything he says is calculated, by design. He knows whose buttons he’s pressing. He’s a genius.”

A surprised O’Hara replied: “Do you reckon West Ham could get him? I’d love to see him back in the Premier League. I wonder if West Ham fans would take him?”

Would West Ham United approach Jose Mourinho?

It is safe to say Julen Lopetegui’s appointment as David Moyes’ successor at the London Stadium is proving to be a resounding failure after the Spaniard recorded his fourth loss in his eighth Premier League match against Tottenham.

West Ham will face off against Mourinho’s former side Manchester United on Sunday [27 October] in a must-win clash for the boss – regardless of reports suggesting his long-term future will not be determined by the result, his side cannot afford to lose more ground in the Premier League..

While the Hammers have seemingly been linked with every manager under the sun, Mourinho is one name yet to appear of genuine interest of David Sullivan to replace Lopetegui, but is someone who would arguably be the best available option.

His credentials outweigh Lopetegui and Moyes’s combined, and if the Irons could pull off the shock appointment he would arrive in East London as the most decorated manager to take charge of the club in the Premier League era.

The words of Cundy and O’Hara should be taken with a pinch of salt. However, until substantial reports emerge from the club showing genuine interest in Mourinho, the idea is nothing more than a pipe dream.

But, if Mourinho is interested in embarking on a new challenge with the Irons, surely any supporter would say goodbye to Lopetegui if it ensured the arrival. If nothing else, it will make for great entertainment.

In other West Ham news, Michail Antonio’s George Earthy prediction will not surprise Irons fans.
