    Aiming for the big time

Change is not coming easily to the senior squad at West Ham United. Learning Lopetegui’s style and methodology is proving challenging and the results are not yet there for any of us to see even after eight games. Whilst the Hammers are going through either growing pains or crisis management depending on viewpoint, some of their wannabe stars of the future are away from the chaos, serving their apprenticeships and honing their craft.

Highly rated teenager Callum Marshall had a disappointing season last term away on loan at West Bromwich Albion, but events are much more promising this season for both the player and his loan club Huddersfield Town in league one.

Marshall scored his third of the season for The Terriers, which made it back to back wins for his loan side with a 3-1 victory over Bristol Rovers. Third tier of English football or not, Marshall is growing in stature and confidence and at 19 years old is beginning to look a serious candidate for future integration back into West Ham.

Unimpressed Lopetegui Wants Fullkrug Replacement in January

And he is 100% focussed on a claret and blue future. Speaking to irishfa.com, the young striker confirmed his ambition to come back a fully fledged Hammer:

“I had my first loan at West Bromwich Albion, which didn’t work out very well, so I wanted to come here to Huddersfield Town and make sure I played and show the manager I was good enough.

“Hopefully I get a good amount of games under my belt this season and go back to West Ham as a man rather than just an Under-21s player.”

Just what West Ham need, another youngster growing in stature and looking to grow into contention for a place in the senior squad in future. Freddie Potts produced a goal and a winning performance at Loftus Road. Good signs for the future amidst a torrid present. Great to hear.
