‘What’s happened?’ – Cascarino baffled by West Ham injury news pre-Tottenham

Tony Cascarino baffled by West Ham United news ahead of Tottenham, ‘What’s Happened?’ Tony Cascarino cannot believe Niclas Fullkrug is still injured at West Ham United ahead of the match against Tottenham on Saturday (19 October).

Julen Lopetegui confirmed in his pre-match press conference his side will be without the German for the clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Cascarino discussed Fullkrug’s absence ahead of the match against Spurs live on talkSPORT [19 October, 8:55am], showing his bewilderment at how the forward is still recovering from injury.

“By the way, what’s happened? Niklas Fullkrug is still injured. Apparently he’s got an Achilles issue that’s taking a lot longer [to recover from]. Michail Antonio will lead the line and he’s a handful.”

Cascarino added: “It sounds like it’s going to be a number of weeks he’s out as well.”

West Ham United need to find a way without Niclas Fullkrug

Hammers supporters will now start to get worried. Fullkrug was expected to return following the international break yet he is “still some way” from recovering from his latest injury setback [Alex Crook]. Lopetegui has struggled thus far in his maiden campaign in East London, with goals largely being few and far between for his side, albeit the 4-1 win against Ipswich Town was a step in the right direction.

However, the Spaniard would have hoped Fullkrug could begin his reign at the spearhead of the attack in time for the trip to Tottenham.

Michail Antonio opened the scoring in Lopetegui’s first win at the London Stadium and, while he will certainly fancy himself against Spurs, the 34-year-old is far from the ideal long-term option at number 9.

Tottenham are there for the taking, fresh off a 3-2 loss against Brighton, and the Hammers could pile further misery upon Ange Postecoglou. Unfortunately, it will be without Fullkrug.

The Champions League finalist was signed in the summer to freshen up the frontline and become the new focal point but still has yet to show what he can do in an Irons shirt. It may be some time before the supporters see their new forward in action.

In other West Ham news, Alan Shearer has predicted the winner of the Tottenham v West Ham United clash.
