Things go from bad to worse for Fullkrug as Lopetegui and Steidten eye up emergency plan – report

West Ham United striker Niclas Fullkrug is still out injured, and Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten are quite clearly very concerned.

Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten worked in tandem to bring Niclas Fullkrug to West Ham in the summer transfer window.

However, the 31-year-old striker has experienced an incredibly difficult start to life at the London Stadium.

West Ham paid more than £25 million to bring Fullkrug to the club in the summer, and that is already looking like a questionable decision.

The Hammers were accused of overpaying for the experienced Germany international in the summer, and that’s probably a fair suggestion.

However, Fullkrug is a proven centre-forward, and many believed that he would thrive under Lopetegui at West Ham.

We are still in the dark as to whether that will be the case or not. Fullkrug has been out injured since the last international break back in September.

And the rumours are that Lopetegui and Steidten are concerned.

So there is seemingly huge concern surrounding Fullkrug at the London Stadium right now.

With the former Borussia Dortmund man currently out injured, nobody knows exactly when he will return.

And it seems like he already faces an uncertain future at at West Ham, as crazy as that undoubtedly sounds.

That’s because Sunday People (print edition October 13th) are claiming that the Hammers have been heavily scouting Alexander Sorloth ahead of a potential move to sign him in January.

The Hammers were heavily linked with a move to sign the 28-year-old for around £32 million back in the summer.

However, he joined Atletico Madrid instead in the end. Now though, it has been claimed that he thinks he made a mistake, and would actually like to join the Hammers in January.

Sorloth the answer for West Ham?

Described by Mundo Deportivo as ‘extraordinary’, Sorloth has all of the attributes needed to succeed with West Ham in the Premier League.

Sorloth has scored 132 goals in 381 career games. Last season for Villarreal, he bagged an impressive 26 goals and six assists in 41 games.

Standing at 6ft 5in tall, the Norwegian is always a real handful for opposing centre-backs, what with his strength and physicality.

The former Crystal Palace striker is incredibly strong in the air, obviously, possesses decent pace and he is an elite finisher.

If he’s available for a decent fee in January, I don’t see why the Hammers shouldn’t make a move for him.

And if West Ham do manage to sign Alexander Sorloth, that could well be the end for Niclas Fullkrug at the London Stadium, before his career in East London even began.
